  • WHAT'S THE HISTORY OF FUTSAL?
Futsal began in Uruguay and Brazil, in 1936. The large crowded cities and a shortage of playing pitches meant that small-sided football was ideal. Futsal was the name chosen by FIFA, which is simply a combination of the Spanish words for ‘hall’ (Sala) and ‘football’ (Futbol): hence ‘Futsal’.
  • WHAT EXACTLY IS FUTSAL?
Futsal is a five-a-side game, usually played on an indoor pitch with hockey sized goals and a size 4 ball which has a reduced bounce. It is an exciting, fast-paced small-sided football game which is widely played across the world. It is the small sided football format that is officially recognised by both UEFA and FIFA. The nature of the game places a large emphasis on technical skill and ability in situations of high pressure.
  • DO ANY FAMOUS FOOTBALLERS PLAY FUTSAL?
Many of the top world class footballers played Futsal in their youth and credit it with supporting their footballing development, such as Pele, Zico, Ronaldinho, Kaka, Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Iniesta, Xavi, Fabregas amongst many others.
  • WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF FUTSAL?
It can be a great experience for players of all ages, and can help develop skills that are important for football. Children learn through repetition and practice in small areas so that the following occurs naturally: Technical skills Players can practice individual techniques like passing, controlling, faking, feinting, dribbling, and running with the ball. Futsal's smaller pitch, no walls, and smaller, heavier ball require players to touch the ball more often, which can help them develop their foot skills. During a game of futsal, players will touch the ball 6x more often than they would in a traditional 11-a-side match. Tactical skills Futsal can help players become more tactically aware and improve their decision-making skills in 1v1 situations. Players also need to learn to receive passes under pressure, retain the ball, and be aware of their teammates and opponents' positions. Physical skills Futsal can help players develop balance, motor ability, agility, and coordination. Psychological skills Futsal can help players build confidence and develop a sense of perception and awareness.
